Look into Hyori Ittai
I first discovered this song back in the fall of 2018 while watching Hunter x Hunter. I quickly became obsessed with the song and the intense connection between Meruem and Komugi.
The piece is deep, heavy, and hauntingly beautiful. The lyrics narrate Meruem’s inner journey as he shifts from a brutal ruler to a perplexed soul, questioning his own existence – “Swallowing the morning and spitting out the night. This is my nature. The feeling boils up inside of me. Is it white or black?”
The arrival of Komugi awakens the human nature within him. In the lyrics, he says, “Reaching out from the far side of memory, and quietly invite me to go where you are.” They were born to find one another.

They held each other’s hands tightly in their final moments, was that not, in its own way, bliss and solace?
In this arrangement, I hoped to capture the same weight and deep emotion in my performance.
Hyori Ittai Piano Arrangement
This is one of the hardest pieces that I’ve ever transcribed, given the complex layers of different instruments and the variations in the melody.
- Arrangement Difficulty:
- Sheets Difficulty:
- A Closer Look at the Sheets:
Intro: Left hand part consists mostly of octaves to convey the energy and strength of intro.

Transition: I kept the arrangement simple here to provide a clear contrast for the upcoming verse.

Verse: This section demands intense emotion, mirroring the lyrics – “The feeling boils up inside of me. Is it white or black?” Personally, I use a bit of rubato in the verse to allow the phrasing to breathe.

Chorus: This is where the emotion escalates and explodes. The left hand features several wide leaps to enhance the sonority and depth of the arrangement.

- Reflections on the Arrangement:
The track is a dense tapestry of sound – violin, piano, guitar, bass, drums, multi part vocals, electric sounds etc. Replicating every single layer on the piano for only ten fingers is crazily hard. Furthermore, forcing every instrument onto the piano (as if you have twenty fingers) would likely result in overwhelming noise.
However, my goal is always to achieve a certain “richness” in the layers. Looking back at this arrangement, I feel I missed the opportunity to capture some of the brilliant lines of violin and electric sounds in the track. Additionally, I find my left hand part to be a bit too conservative – The note selection and arpeggios feel tedious, lacking the dynamic movement I was pursing.
- Use of Pedal: Use the sustain pedal throughout the piece, but ensure the transitions are clean.
