A Closer Look at the Sheets:

Intro:

The song opens with a hook-first structure, diving straight into the chorus. The first part of the intro (measure 1-5) features a women’s choir rendition of the chorus. In my arrangement, I kept both hands simple here to set off the second part of the intro – the instrumental version of the chorus.

At measure 5, the end of the first part of the intro, I added a series of arpeggios to transition into the second parts. Looking back at this transition, I realized that I missed the drum fill from the original track, which is the real bridge that connects the two sections.

Pre-Chorus:

In the left hand part, measure 26-28 consists of a mix of quarter and eighth notes. Starting from measure 29, the left hand switches to constant eighth-note octaves to reflect the escalation of power leading into chorus.

Transition:

Personally, this is my favorite part of the song. There’s a sense of divinity in this section that perfectly resonates with the vibe of Neon Genesis Evangelion. The melody is melancholy yet powerful, carrying compassion, love and hope at all once. The bass and the keyboard weave through the multi-part chorus, building toward an intense escalation in the end.

It feels as if, after enduring great suffering, a shonen spreads his wings, flies out the window, and soars into the sky, though we know yet another suffering awaits him in the clouds.

For my arrangement, my left hand follows the bass line, while my right hand follows the keyboard and the multi-part chorus.
